The cost of living is rising, and many paychecks just aren’t keeping up. That’s why side hustles — extra income sources outside your main job — are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, a recent survey found that over half of Americans (54%) now have a side hustle.
Your next-door neighbor is moonlighting and driving an Uber.
Another neighbor is selling stuff on eBay.
Then another neighbor is selling real estate on the side.
With the price of things today, I wouldn’t blame them. With many paychecks stagnant, you have to look for money somewhere.
That’s why having a side hustle is important.
You never know when your employer will give you the pink slip. Companies have to deal with today’s high prices as well. The price of things isn’t going to go down anytime soon.
I’ve tried a few side hustles and failed many times. Only a few worked out. So, there is no guarantee a side hustle will work for you.
It takes a little discipline and working extra hours to make it work.
I put together a few side hustle ideas you may want to consider.
First, you need to find the time.
Second, get all the resources together to work on your side hustle.
Third, you’ll make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and try not to do them again.
Here are seven side hustles to consider.
1. Declutter
Sell what you already own. You see people holding garage sales when they move. Why don’t you do the same?
You don’t need to buy anything to get started. Sell things you already have. Turn your unused items into cash and declutter your space at the same time.
Online market sites such as eBay, Poshmark, Neighborhood app, Craigslist, or local consignment shops are great options.
2. Become a freelancer
Use the skills you already have. If you want to be a writer, start a blog or write on Medium.
Offer your services if you have an interest in design, data entry, or anything else. Many sites offer tips to help you get started.
3. Make your hobby a side hustle
Your hobby could help you bring in extra cash. You can do this by selling your creations online or at local marketplaces. Additionally, sell your baked goods on Facebook or the Nextdoor app.
4. Tutoring is in high demand
If you were good in reading or math in school, why not turn that into a side hustle? There are dozens or hundreds of kids in your area who need some help. You can do this on your own or sign up with a local tutoring agency to get started.
5. Pet sitting or dog walking
If you love animals, there are plenty of people who work and need help with their pets. You can offer pet services to walk a dog or pet sit for their animal.
6. Offer rideshare services
Sign up for Uber or Lyft and be your own boss. The best part is you set your hours.
7. Rent out a room
If you have a spare room, consider listing it on rental platforms for short-term stays or storage. Plenty of people are looking for a room as rental prices have increased.
Final Thoughts
There is no perfect side hustle until you get started and see what works best for you. Use your interests and skills to find the best side hustle out there.
Get creative and explore your options.
